Zero 7-Simple Things (2001)

Back in 2001 British DJs and sound engineers Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker created their first studio album called Simple Things under the moniker Zero 7. What makes Simple Things such a stellar album is its fantastic collection of downtempo, trip-hop songs that hypnotically lull you into a blissful zen-like state once hearing the album in full.

Back in 2001 British DJs and sound engineers Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker created their first studio album called Simple Things under the moniker Zero 7. The two DJs collaborated with vocalists Sia, Sophie Barker, and Mozez when recording the album. Some might be familiar with the song “In The Waiting Line,” which was featured in the movie Garden State made by Zach Braff. Anyhow, what makes Simple Things such a stellar album is its fantastic collection of downtempo, trip-hop songs that hypnotically lull you into a blissful zen-like state once hearing the album in full.

The two DJs came up with their band name “Zero 7” when they were traveling throughout Mexico and Honduras. They ended up hanging out a lot at a bar called “Cero Siete” located on the small island of Utila. The bar must have been a rather pleasant experience for the two Brits because they came back to the U.K. with the name Zero 7 representing their trademark electronic chilled out sound. A few of my favorite tracks from Simple Things would probably be “I Have Seen,” “Destiny,” “In The Waiting Line,” and the title-track “Simple Things.”

A few musical acts that sound similar to Zero 7 are Thievery Corporation, Tycho, Tosca, Koop, and José González. This album is a superb record to read to, work to, do chores to, nap to, and just chill to. It has a real laid back, spacey feel that tends to settle one’s nerves. I would highly recommend this album to anyone that likes electronic, lounge, acid jazz, chillwave, ambient, or downtempo music. Also, if anyone just needs music to chill out to, this album should definitely do the trick.

Once again thanks so much to all my amazing readers!

Please share and care!
